Multi-Sport Field: The Dugout of Boerne & D1

— client story

When a growing sports facility maxed out its space, the answer wasn't a smaller fix — it was a full new field built to handle baseball, softball, soccer, and football all at once.

When Success Becomes a Space Problem

The Dugout of Boerne and D1 reached out to us with a good problem to have: they'd maxed out their existing capacity. Demand for practice and training space had grown to the point where their current facility simply couldn't book any more teams, and turning business away isn't a sustainable growth strategy. Their answer was to build an entirely new field on the back of the property — but it needed to do more than just add square footage. It needed to serve multiple sports, hold up to constant commercial use, and be ready to book from day one.

Booked constantly. Built for growth.

The Dugout of Boerne & D1 — Boerne, TX

Boerne, TX

One field, built to serve four sports

We built a 10,000-square-foot athletic field designed from the ground up to host baseball, softball, soccer, and football practices and training sessions — not a single-purpose field retrofitted for other uses, but a surface engineered for multi-sport commercial demand from the start.

The buildout went well beyond laying turf over dirt. We leveled and cleared the entire site, installed a concrete footer for structural integrity, filled and compacted our base product, and laid the full foundation before installing athletic sports field turf with rubber infill — the infill choice that gives a multi-sport surface the traction and shock absorption different sports each demand. We also installed high-end sports netting around the field's perimeter for ball containment and safety, along with field lighting to extend usable hours well past daylight.

Since completion, the field has been booked consistently — giving The Dugout of Boerne and D1 the capacity to take on more teams, grow revenue, and expand operations in a way their previous space simply couldn't support.

What Actually Went Into the Field

A commercial multi-sport field has to hold up to a level of daily use a backyard or even a typical church courtyard never sees. Here's the full build, layer by layer:

Structural baseConcrete footer installed

Turf typeAthletic sports field turf

The concrete footer is worth calling out specifically — it's not a step every turf project needs, but for a commercial athletic field taking repeated heavy use across multiple sports, it's what keeps the whole system structurally sound over years of use rather than just months.

Why a Multi-Sport Field Made More Sense Than a Single-Use One

Building a field dedicated to just one sport would have solved the capacity problem for that one sport and left it unsolved for everything else. Athletic sports turf with rubber infill is built to handle the different demands of baseball, softball, soccer, and football on the same surface — meaning The Dugout of Boerne and D1 can book the field for whichever team needs it that day, rather than managing separate single-purpose spaces.

Booked Across Four Sports

One field, engineered to serve baseball, softball, soccer, and football without needing separate dedicated spaces.

Built to Handle Commercial Volume

A concrete footer and full base system built for repeated, heavy daily use — not backyard-grade construction.

Lighting Extends the Bookable Day

Field lighting means practices and training sessions aren't limited to daylight hours, opening up more bookable time slots.

Perimeter Netting for Safety

High-end sports netting contains balls and protects both players and the surrounding property.

No Downtime for Field Recovery

Unlike natural grass fields, turf doesn't need rest periods between bookings to recover from heavy use.

A Direct Path to More Revenue

More bookable hours, more sports served, and a field that doesn't need downtime all translate directly into growth capacity.

the bottom line

Sometimes the growth ceiling isn't demand — it's capacity.

The Dugout of Boerne and D1 didn't need more customers. They needed a field that could actually hold the ones they already had, plus room to grow.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Athletic sports field turf with rubber infill is designed to provide the traction and shock absorption needed across sports like baseball, softball, soccer, and football on the same surface.
A concrete footer adds structural integrity for fields under heavy, repeated commercial use — it helps the entire base system stay sound over years of consistent bookings rather than just an initial season.
No. One of the biggest advantages of turf for a commercial training facility is that it doesn't require recovery periods between bookings the way natural grass fields typically do.
Yes. In addition to the turf and base system, we installed high-end perimeter sports netting and field lighting as part of this project to support safety and extend usable hours.
